L: First up, a pic of Boba looking adorable to apologise for being late with our update, and also kinda sparse.

A: Oh god, what did we do this week… Well it was my first week at uni on my nursing course - which was mostly welcome lectures about how the course worked, more info about modules, intro to lecturers. I’m glad to have gotten started but am even more excited about starting work properly this week. It is terrifying going back to Uni but at least they’ve started slowly.

The weather is also feeling distinctly more autumnal! Our weekly wild swim was very cold and I definitely need to invest in some swim socks- chilblains are painful!

L: Can I just say though, wetsuits make a huge difference to how long you can swim in the cold as a newbie wild swimmer and I know that seems obvious but I hadn’t fully appreciated how it would allow us to do some longer swims. Also, I had some pretty horrible memories of wetsuits as a child/teenager, and was prepared for a sensory nightmare and basically not to be able to manage, but modern (and expensive tri-)wetsuits are a revelation. We’ve hired these until April, so am hopeful for swims throughout the winter.

L: I also agree with Abi. It’s been a week. It’s actually been a month, or a few months. IDK. What A Year.

I got the results of my MRI and alongside the expected wear to my cartilidge, it turns out I have a meniscus (sp?) tear and cyst in my right knee, and they wanna stick a camera in and see if they can trim it? which sounds gross and as much as I want to be in less pain, I also do not want to have an operation. Also the consultant helpfully ended the call by being like ‘you will never have a normal knee’ so of course I had a big cry and also what does that even mean? Anyway, I’ve been signed off work for unrelated mental health stuff for a couple weeks, which seems sensible, and I’ve rejigged schedules on freelance work to attempt to actually have some time to rest, and try and look after myself a bit and maybe that will also mean thinking about my knees.

L: In less ‘having a teeny crisis’ news, I’ve got some work in the Out of Sight Out of Mind exhibition at Summerhall in Edinburgh - its some of the originals from my Mad Tarot deck, which you can also find as a zine in our shop here. Don’t worry if you’re a patreon though cos it’ll be going out as a wee bonus next month!

A: Speaking of zines, we’ve got some BIG plans for our Patreon and for our zines in general. Firstly we’re gonna be posting all of our zines in our shop at the start of December- that includes Wild Vegans 4 and (if we get our butts in gear in time) a new bumper issue of Wild Vegans 1&2 which we are so excited to get reprinted! Secondly, if you sign up for our patreon before the end of October, we will be sending out a very exciting zine featuring some new writing about our second, 2019, Cycle Tour. Its Gears for Queers 2: Danube Drift baby! Signing up is super simple and you get digital zines for £1 a month and physical zines for £2.
