not-stagram catch up!

L: OK it’s been two weeks, because things have been busy and hard, and then my initial draft of this blog post has the AUDACITY to delete itself. So I am typing every word through gritted teeth, just so you know.

L: I wrote a really nice description of how you too can access an amazing collection of zines at the Wellcome library in London - all you need is to sign up as a library member and request them. I cba to retype it, but if this is something you would like to do, hit me up and I can fill you in on all the deets and the ins and outs. Anyway it was really really good to sit in the library and read some zines over the two days I was there, and also I presented my phd work in person for the first time at a symposium in Brighton so that was… good?! strange?! idk. I stayed in Richmond whilst I was in London, so I got to visit Richmond Park for the first time - I’m not going to pretend like living in Fife doesn’t sort of take the awe and wonder out of London’s green spaces, but I’ll admit it was nice. I didn’t see any deer but I saw many many loud and bright green parakeets.

A: I dont have any pictures from the last couple of weeks, mostly because I have been freaking out about starting my Nursing degree. I had a ‘team spirit’ event last friday which was a lot more fun than expected- it was a load of team building events (like the floor is lava etc) at an medical army regiment in Dundee. I am not a fan of the armed forces and my general anxiety about meeting new people etc made me pretty anxious. But my team were lovely and v. competitive, so I felt like I could really get into the tasks. I did however end up with the gnarliest bruise on my arm after archery- i would post the pic, but I know some people don’t want to see injuries, so I wont. This week is just a welcome week which is going well. Next week I’ll be heading over the clinical skills, which is scary but exciting.

Oh…after the army thing we went to the speakeasy cocktail bar in Dundee (a lot of fun, once we figured out where it was) and then Loco Rita’s, a vegan mexican restaurant, which was pretty damn great! I have missed Dundee since lockdown, so it was nice to be back.

L: Ok let’s see. So whilst Abi was playing games with the army in dundee, me and my mum drove up to Arbroath for an explore. The prom was lovely, the sea wilder than the firth of forth, and the cliffs were improbably nice walking, if a little precipitous at times. We only did a short walk but I’d love to go back and do a longer one (and take a dip in mermaid’s pool). We went for our first swim in our wetsuits, and it really makes a difference to how long we can stay in the water! It also makes me feel more confident because I am deeply suspicious of the sea/nature. We were going to do a swim at Broughty Ferry the next day, but we had one too many frozen margaritas and abi had a migraine so we settled for a walk and a promise to return.

A: Yes, the wetsuits were brilliant! But I’m gonna go in in skins next time, cause it’s not that cold (yet…)

L: Finally a wee photo dump: A Cool Mushroom; A Lovely Mug My Best Pal Got Me; and Good Light At Summerhall (where I was dropping off my work for the Out of Sight Out of Mind Exhibition, which you should check out if you’re in Edinburgh or online from the 13th October to the 30th… https://www.outofsightoutofmind.scot/)
