Notstagram 7th-13th August

A: Hello! How are you finding these not-stagrams? It is weird not being super active on instagram anymore at times, but I do think this has been better for both of us- even if we miss the engagement and chat we used to have over on the app. This week we spent some nice time with friends, went wild swimming (twice!) and prepped for Lili going to London and Brighton this week for work.

L: Yeah, i was reflecting the other day how I think this has shifted our relationship to the app/social media, and probably in a good way?

L: We went for a walk along the coast from Burntisland to Aberdour (after a wee trip to the Fix in burntisland, pictured below) because it was a beautiful day, and we wanted to try swimming at Silver Sands at high tide. It was perfect swimming weather, the sea wasn’t too cold (although we would have benefitted from wearing our wet suits) and there wasn’t a jelly to be seen (it’s the end of the season. Then at the weekend we had a visit from pals and took them to Pathhead beach in kirkcaldy, where abi and chloe had a wee dip!

A: I am getting a bit addicted to wild swimming. Its hard to explain how good cold water feels (or maybe getting out of cold water feels?) I am also enjoying my ridiculous tan lines from swimming in shorts in Wales a few weeks ago…

L: And then I had a not so wild, but still outdoors and unheated swim today at Jesus Green Lido in Cambridge. I took an overnight flixbus down on sunday night from edinburgh, and I’m going to be working in cam/london this week, and then presenting a paper at a symposium in brighton on friday (my first in person presentation and I am bricking it!)

I have lots of fond memories of swimming at J Green - many with my best pal Jen who joined me today! The water was the perfect temperature (a balmy 19 degrees), it wasn’t too busy, and it was lovely and warm and sunny when I got out (although the thermos of tea I brought with was still a welcome brew!)

L: This was the…6 year anniversary of our first ever overnight cycle-camp trip together! Such kids!

A: I don’t think either of us had slept in a tent since doing DofE bronze award at school, so it was a big learning curve. We went to a beautiful eco campsite in Suffolk called Ling’s Meadow and absolutely loved it. In fact we ended up having our friend-do there a few years later.

L: Finally this week we’ve been learning how to make bagels - although to be honest we got this gluten free bagel mix delivered so it was more learning how to shape, boil and bake bagels and to be honest, shaping is not my forte….. they taste so good tho - crisp outside and chewy inside, and I don’t think you’d know they were gluten free…

A: Yeah I think it should be my job to shape them in the future…. But also I would recommend for any who is gluten-free- they’re from mygfbakery.com and they do a range of fresh breads as well as a big selection of quick mixes to bake at home.
